Jack Garfein’s teaching at the studio is founded on his personal experience working with actors, directing as well as the writings of Stanislavski and Vakhtangov.

Jack Garfein was the first director to be voted in as a member of the Actors Studio. He founded the Actors Studio-West in Los Angeles. His association with Erwin Piscator, Lee Strasberg at the beginning of his career, as well as with Elia Kazan at the Actors Studio, and Harold Clurman, and John Ford, led him to define his vision as a stage and film director.

He co-founded the "Strasberg Institute" in New York with Lee Strasberg, who said of him that he was the one best able "to structure the work of the actor specifically".

The Studio Jack Garfein in its program, gives the actors and directors the necessary tools to translate into action the words of a theatrical text or scenario that will result in the creation of a character.

In 2010, the first time a price has been given for the best scene work in France. The Studio Jack Garfein was the winner of The Mask of the best scene work of Guide du Comédien with "The Wild Duck" (Ibsen).
